Châteauroux Shooting Centre, Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Adapting an existing venue to meet the complex needs of the Games

With the shooting competition traditionally being where the first Games medal is won, the Châteauroux National Shooting Centre (CNTS) had to look and perform at its best from the opening day.

One of the largest shooting centres in Europe, the CNTS welcomed 340 Olympic athletes and 160 Paralympic athletes competing in 17 days of shooting events. WOO designed the overlay required for the Games competition and for the Athletes Village.

Our approach was to identify the best ways to make efficient use of venue space to accommodate the complex needs of the Games including the large number of athletes and their teams, broadcast and media personnel, and spectators.

Working with the French Shooting Federation, WOO created a legacy programme to further enhance the facilities, making the CNTS one of the world’s top training centres.

Throughout the Games, WOO provided site management support as part of the Venue and Infrastructure team to ensure the venue was prepared for the arrival of spectators.

The Athletes Village occupied three locations, one of which required a complete renovation to meet accessibility requirements. WOO established the Games requirements for the Athletes Village sites and worked closely with the Paris 2024 team to ensure all Olympic and Paralympic-specific requirements were met.
