Goodison Park Accessibility Works, Liverpool

A transformative accessibility project improving comfort and convenience for all

• CLIENT: Everton Football Club
• LOCATION: Goodison Park, Liverpool, UK
• CAPACITY: 187 additional wheelchair positions and additional seating
• SERVICES: Consultancy + Architecture

To provide a world-class experience for disabled supporters at Goodison Park, WOO architects was tasked with upgrading facilities including improving accessibility to the Everton FC stadium.

The project required accommodating 187 wheelchair and ambulant disabled positions, with 75 per cent of them being elevated, plus adjacent seating for family and companions.

Through detailed analysis, key locations were identified behind the lower tier of the Goodison Road Stand and at the back of the Park Stand, where underused spaces were demolished to create new accessible entrances, platforms, lifts, spacious toilets and other facilities. Structural changes to the Park Stand’s roof increased stadium capacity, while the new viewing positions offered enhanced sightlines for disabled fans.

The result is a seamless blend of modern accessibility features within the stadium’s historic fabric, improving comfort and convenience for all.

Paul O’Neil from the Everton Disabled Supporters’ Association (EDSA) said, “The new facilities are just incredible, more than any of us at EDSA were expecting. The views offered by the new platform are fantastic and a must-see for disabled supporters who want to watch the match with an elevated view from behind the goal.”
