The sports masterplan for Hudayriyat Island in Abu Dhabi has been developed by WOO as a multi-use recreational hub, integrating natural landscapes and cutting-edge infrastructure. The development emphasises sustainability and community engagement. Key features include a velodrome, extensive cycling and running tracks, a variety of outdoor sports facilities including basketball and tennis courts, and large-scale leisure areas, ensuring that the island caters to professional athletes and recreational users.
A notable aspect of the design is the expansion of the 321 Sports centre on the island. WOO developed the design brief and facility planning to provide a comprehensive sports experience, supporting everything from elite level competitions to family-friendly activities, making it a key hub within Abu Dhabi’s growing leisure and sports scene.
The centrepiece of the expansion is the largest indoor sports dome in the Middle East, accommodating indoor sports including basketball, volleyball and tennis. Also included are areas for fitness training and enhanced amenities for recreational and professional athletes.
Among the high-profile guests, Manchester City FC visited the Hudayriyat Elite Training Centre to experience its advanced facilities for elite sports preparation, including recovery zones, advanced analytics systems and training pitches built to international standards. The collaboration between the club and Hudayriyat symbolises the growing trend of accessing global resources to enhance player performance and adaptability across varying conditions.
